Our group offers a wide range of aviation antennas for both civilian and military applications. Our antennas cover all communication, safety, and navigation functions for aircraft. We design and manufacture our products in Europe and the United States, enabling us to remain attentive to our major clients and their expectations.

The variety of our range means we can supply custom assemblies for each program. Thales is constantly innovating thanks to the measurement and simulation capabilities of its laboratories. Our work with aircraft manufacturers, helicopter manufacturers, and manufacturers of aeronautical structures involves optimizing the radiation pattern and the breakdown, but also antennas integrated in the fuselage or Air-To-Ground connections (ATG).

Communication antennas

We equip every type of platforms (commercial, regional, business jets, general aviation, eVtol, helicopters) with our wide range of VHF (118-156 Mhz) antennas. From whip to blade antennas, they are studied to be as lightweight as possible while ensuring their robustness in compliance with standards. We also offer Multi-Function Antennas (ComDat). Our range of UHF antennas allows us to offer solutions for frequency bands used by the military and also for custom requests.

Emergency antennas

We offer a range of ELT type antennas to enable the transmission of emergency distress signals. They are selected and certified by the major manufacturers of emergency beacons. Our antennas are optimized to present the least amount of drag. These antennas are treated against corrosion and designed to withstand the harshest conditions of use. Lightning protection is built in. 

For light aviation, we offer whip tri-band versions on the 121.5 MHz, 243 MHz, and 406 MHz frequencies.

Space antennas

The design and manufacture of space antennas is a traditional activity of Thales. Thanks to this experience, we cover such applications as “Telecommand & Telemetry”, “Positioning”, “Navigation”, and “Data link for Payload”.

Our latest developments focus on nanosatellites. The first deployable UHF Rx/Tx antenna will launch in 2023

New antenna technologies

Thales is constantly innovating, thanks to collaboration with clients, universities, and government ministries. New technologies must especially address the challenges of green aviation. Reducing the weight and size of antennas will contribute to lower aircraft energy consumption as well the integration of new materials, which we are working on. Structurally integrated antennas should also work to offset the impact of drag. Other studies are ongoing to offer data links at competitive prices.
