Satcom

Thales provides a unique combination of antennas and SATCOM transceiver technology to civilian and military stakeholders. We design next generation aircraft SATCOM systems based on L-band mobile satellite services (MSS), reserved and protected for air traffic and safety communications.

Our new products meet the industry transmission and security requirements for FANS 1/A, 2/B, and 3/C. This will provide operators with the benefits of reduced oceanic separation routing and enable continental 4D trajectory guidance in Europe (SESAR IRIS) and the United States (FAA NextGen).

Our SwiftBroadband (SB) products remain available for non-security-related communications

New satcom generation for "safety" services

Faced with an increased rate of communications related to air traffic and the limits of current technologies in terms of safety and efficiency, Thales has invested in the L-band SATCOM segment. The group is offering a new generation of compact systems - called AVIATOR S - that meet the industry’s transmission and safety requirements. Our products ensure the integrity of ATC/ACD communications and verify sender authenticity, to and from the aircraft. They segregate ATC/ACD data from other non-critical data. The transmission capacity is optimized to meet ACD and AISD requirements.

  • AVIATOR 200S (class 4 single channel Inmarsat SB-S 2.0 capable system) with 405045 CSDU, 405005 HELGA and 405055 SCM
  • AVIATOR 700s (class 6 dual channel Inmarsat SB-S 2.0 capable system) with 405045 CSDU, 405015 MCHPA, DAU-7070 DLNA and a choice of High Gain Antenna (HGA-7001, HGA-6000 or HGA-6500)

Special Purpose Satcom systems

Specifically designed products ensure simultaneous sharing of massive amounts of data from multiple sources or operation in extreme conditions (high/low temperature, low pressure, heavy vibration).

In most cases, these systems are installed in the non-pressurized zones of aircraft or in helicopters. They ensure data capture and transfers (telemetry, videos, etc.) between the flight and ground control centers.

Surveillance-related applications are used for monitoring the health of energy projects, border control, or maritime economic zones.

New air mobility products

With their low payload, UAV and new mobility platforms require smaller, lighter products, with lower energy requirements.

To provide adapted communication functionalities on these platforms, Thales Aerospace Communications has a full coverage Class 4 SwiftBroadband system for UAV weighing less than 2 kg and has a number of low profile, low weight antenna options available.
