The Thales D1 solution is a perfect fit for today’s innovation-driven payments market. Our secure cloud-based platform enables all card issuers to create offers that meet the expectations of modern, mobile-centric consumers. That includes the freedom to mix and match a comprehensive choice of virtual, digital and physical cards. What’s more, D1 delivers a wealth of digital services that finally ease the pain of those personal banking disasters we’ve all encountered: lost and stolen cards, missing and forgotten PINs, and much more besides.
Thales D1: the most advanced set of solutions for virtual, digital and physical cards
One size no longer fits all. Customers increasingly want to use different cards for different payment situations. That means building a personalised portfolio that draws on virtual, digital and physical options.
So what are the differences between these three card types?
Thales D1 brings all three options together, within a single, smooth, app-based journey.
Virtual cards
Virtual cards are payment cards issued and available from the heart of a mobile banking app.
Digital cards
Digital cards are EMV tokens generated from physical and virtual cards, used in digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, or for Click-to-Pay in eCommerce.
Physical cards
Even physical cards can now benefit from a 100% digital journey, including initial ordering, PIN selection, and account settings such as spending limits.
Smashing legacy roadblocks
With Thales D1, issuers seeking to launch a modern card program no longer face roadblocks created by their legacy IT systems. Our solution avoids all the delays, costs and complexity of upgrading existing core banking platforms. Instead, Thales is your new digital backbone. D1 integrates effortlessly with legacy card issuing infrastructures. Modern card programs are built quickly, and connect easily to our wide array of customer-focused digital services. These include the ability to instantly create and activate a virtual replacement for a lost or stolen card, in-app reminders of forgotten PINs, and real-time tracking of postal deliveries, so the customer knows exactly when their new physical card will arrive.
Why D1 sets new records for rapid payment card launches
The unified Thales D1 SDK (Software Development Kit) brings together everything required to deliver a compelling mobile banking app and web interface, and to orchestrate the entire card issuing stack. Out of sight, Thales D1 integrates the resources for tokenisation, HCE (Host Card Emulation), card personalisation, SCA (Secure Customer Authentication) and more. Interfacing with CMS and core banking systems, Thales D1 supports every stage of the journey: card issuance, card activation, transactions management, account management and fraud management. And issuers are always in touch with what’s happening. Logs and monitoring tools make it easy to track product launches and card adoption.
Four key benefits of Thales D1
Improved customer acquisition and retention. A compelling card offer attracts new customers, and strengthens the loyalty of existing cardholders.
Increased revenues. The faster cards are issued, the faster they start generating revenue. In a world defined by endless choice, a compelling card offer is the one that customers reach for first. That means higher transaction volumes over the long-term too.
Reduced operating costs. Digitalisation cuts costs at every stage of the customer journey. Putting cardholders in control of their account settings also reduces the burden on service and support teams, realising further efficiencies.
Improved fraud prevention. Thales D1 includes a suite of business tools that slash the risks and costs of CNP fraud.
It’s time to modernise.
