UAE operator e&, part of the Etisalat Group, has announced the introduction of an eco-friendly Green SIM Card initiative for its UAE customers in the run-up to the upcoming 28th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP28) in Dubai.
It's great to see that sustainability is a key focus for e&, the Principal Technology Partner of the event. This commitment aligns with their 2030 net-zero target, showcasing a proactive approach to addressing environmental challenges. The dedication to accelerating climate action projects in their UAE operations highlights a strong commitment to making a positive impact on the environment.
Manufactured from recycled polystyrene, the new EcoSIM Cards from e& in partnership with Thales boast a more environmentally sustainable profile compared to traditional cards, with a lower carbon footprint. The procurement of over half a million EcoSIM Cards is a significant step, ensuring widespread availability for visitors and attendees arriving in the UAE for the COP28 event. This initiative not only offers an eco-friendlier alternative but also contributes to the overall sustainability goals of minimizing environmental impact.
The collaboration between e& and Thales to use and deploy EcoSIM Card, the world's first 100% recycled SIM card, by reusing polystyrene waste from discarded refrigerators or any other cold appliances is an innovative and environmentally responsible initiative. Transforming this waste contributing to the elimination of virgin plastic use, into usable granules is a commendable step toward addressing the issue of plastic waste and contributing to a more circular economy.
Thales understands that eliminating emissions can be challenging and today, we embark on Thales EcoJourney, a journey that aligns telecom innovation with sustainable practices.
To address this, we've created a unique carbon offset program for our Thales EcoSIM offer. This offsets the remaining emissions, helping our partners at e& reach their net-zero emissions goal by 2030. It's our way of taking responsibility for our environmental impact and contributing to a greener future.
e& is making big moves to cut its carbon footprint, aiming for net-zero in scope 1 and 2 emissions in its UAE operations by 2030. This shows a serious commitment to being environmentally responsible.
Thales has been committed to a proactive and responsible approach to environmental protection for more than 15 years.
