Thales helicopter pilot head-up display helmet
Comfortable, mission-oriented and offering multiple vision capabilities, TopOwl Digital Display is recognized by pilots as a significant contribution to flight safety and mission effectiveness.
A natural vision of the outside environment
TopOwl Digital Display, beyond displaying flight symbology, boasts many features, providing pilots with optimum vision capabilities. It offers night vision to the pilots thanks to light intensifiers placed on both sides of the helmet, sending back an intensified image of the surrounding superposed on the landscape. Where you had to add a pair of night binoculars and therefore extra weight on the front of the head, TopOwl Digital Display has a perfectly balanced weight. It also avoids the tunnel effect found using binoculars by offering a 180° view. As a helmet, TopOwl Digital Display replaces conventional night vision googles, with easy and seamless switch between natural vision and night vision. Navigation and weapon system information are displayed directly in front of the pilot's eyes; enabling helicopters to be flown day and night.
TopOwl Digital Display key asset for successful completion of vital missions
High-level operational performance
Conceived in close conjunction with pilots, TopOwl Digital Display matches their actual needs, especially in critical military operations. Indeed, TopOwl Digital Display capabilities raise it to the rank of key asset in successful completion of missions with a new very long latency head tracking system. This enables the pilot to increase the control of their weapon or point at something simply by moving their head, but also provides a perfect alignment between augmented reality (Synthetic Vision System - SVS) and landscape to reach pilonting performance needs.
-
Unmatched pilot situational awareness thanks to wide 40° binocular field of view
-
Easy and simple in-flight switching between day/night and I2T/FLIR configurations
-
High level of integrity to use TopOwl Digital Display as a Primary Reference
-
Compatible with all the latest piloting sensors, typically stereo Distributed Aperture Sensors allowing 180° 3D displays
-
Easier piloting anticipation with new functionalities of augmented reality (SVS) and during landing phases with BoWo (Brown out-White out) symbology in case of Degraded Vision Environment (DVE)
-
Thanks to the new Picture-in-Picture (PIP)/Head-in-Display (HID) function, the mission is made easier with direct access to sensor images for the pilot
-
New configurable symbology capability allowing pilots to customize their levels of decluting according to mission and context
-
New connection design to increase usage and safety
Comfort and protection
The helmet itself is composed of two components: the basic helmet and the display module. The basic helmet is for personal use. It is personalized to fit the head of each pilot thanks to the shaping of a polystyrene case inside of it. TopOwl Digital Display provides pilots with high levels of comfort, reducing fatigue and improving performance over long, arduous missions. Compatible with eyeglasses, TopOwl Digital Display's perfect optical alignment enables an optimal center of gravity, avoiding strenuous neck muscles movements.
