FlytX is a new-generation avionics suite for helicopter, from light VFR single engine to heavy IFR, at odds with today’s designs and offering new, efficient ways of piloting.

Weight and volume are highly critical for helicopters. FlytX has made dramatic improvements in these areas over existing avionics suites.  The power derived from four computers in today’s air transport airplane is now integrated within a single 15” SMART display. Additionally, with the ability to virtualize the control panels within the touchscreen displays, FlytX is a unique solution to save weight, volume and to reduce the amount of equipment on board.

Flying a helicopter represents a substantial workload for the pilot, who must manage both the rotorcraft and the mission. Thanks to the use of touchscreens, Thales has developed new ways of interacting with the cockpit to reduce workload and thus optimize flight and reduce the necessary training sessions.

The use of tablet-like interaction has made it possible to bring consumer world interfaces to the avionics world (two-finger zoom / de-zoom, map displacement and scrolling). Pie menus are also a new type of interface providing direct access to information without necessary training on functions and the connected system trees.

As one size doesn’t fit all cockpits, FlytX is an avionics system that can adapt to any cockpit size with solutions ranging from a single display to four displays. The one-display system will fit in Light Single helicopters requiring compact and efficient solutions while maximizing external vision. Three- to four-display solutions offer a larger area for displaying information to improve situational information such as digital map, video content, FLIR and primary flight information in full screen.

The content of the display is fully customizable by the OEM wishing to adapt their system pages to their helicopter. FlytX offers the possibility of modifying Primary Flight and Navigation display designs to cope with their family look and feel in areas such as layout, scales and colours. They may prefer to totally break their designs to bring new features onboard. The choices are unlimited.

Helicopter missions are highly diverse, from VIP transportation to search and rescue at sea, from sling load operations to frontier surveillance. Ideally, this would require a unique flight deck adapted to the mission.

The Thales new-generation flight deck is also tablet-friendly, with an easy connection system (USB type) and compatible with any operating system (Windows, Android and IOS). Pilots can bring their own devices, display the content on FlytX screens, and interact with any web application as if it were their tablet, completely protected from cyber threats thanks to the FlytX architecture and Cyber health monitoring systems.

FlytX for helicopter is a full avionics suite that can be adapted from one to four displays. It provides Synthetic Vision System and Digital Map to enhance situational awareness and flight security.

FlytX displays all equipment situation status, system pages (engine, hydraulic, electric, fuel, etc.). It allows both circuits and onboard equipment to be monitored and managed using tactile menus and interactive widgets. The Flight Warning System (FWS) computes and displays alerts on a single dedicated area of the screens for an easy understanding and quick reaction on the pilot’s part.

FlytX offers high technology interfaces for civil and military cockpits, for piloting with and without gloves.

The high power of Thales Smart displays means that the FMS, the Centralized Maintenance System and the HTAWS terrain surveillance can all be stored without requiring external computers creating additional part numbers to manage and stock. FlytX also embeds all current modern avionics functions including TCAS, ADS-B, weather radar and IFF transponder.

Primary reference means, localization and radio-communications are also integrated. Autopilot solutions up to four axes are optional solutions for all helicopter sizes, even the lightest ones with a compact system integrating actuators.

FlytX meets all pilot expectations and current interaction techniques. They may fly using traditional CCD, keyboard or using the touchscreens. All three are certified for primary use.
