Armored Fighting Vehicle Crew Training
Ensuring AFV crews' mission readiness
Thales provides land forces with realistic and immersive AFV (Armored Fighting Vehicle) simulation capabilities tailored to meet their specific needs and ensure the highest level of mission readiness before operational engagement.
Thales simulation capabilities include the full range of devices, from stand-alone desktop training stations up to high-fidelity motion platform simulators for driving, firing and tactical training.
Delivered projects include:
- MBT (Main Battle Tank) – Leclerc, Leopard 2, Abrams M1A2
- AIFV (Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicles) / APC (Armored Personel Carriers) – VBCI, CV90, BMP3, Piranha, ASLAV
- Support vehicles – Hummer, trucks
- Protected Vehicles – Bushmaster
- Self-propelled artillery vehicles – M109 and G6
- Specialized vehicles (bridge laying, etc.)
Our comprehensive training solutions support crew members at all stages of their training path, from acquiring technical skills to mission-specific training for operational deployment. Network-capable, including remotely for distributed training, our simulators allow the training of individual crew members, vehicle crews, or entire formations participating in combined arms operations.
Realistic and immersive
Land forces need to rely on realistic and immersive solutions to train effectively and ensure operational superiority on the battlefield.
Thales AFV simulators leverage cutting-edge technology to deliver an unparalleled training experience.
One key feature is their ability to simulate and manage complex battlefield scenarios involving numerous entities, from different domains (combat, support, and logistics units), and with various battlefield actors: ground vehicles, helicopters, aircrafts, UAS, soldiers, civilians. Trainees navigate through complex environments, interact with virtual adversaries, and make split-second decisions under pressure.
Our Computer Generated Forces (CGF) enables the creation of specific procedural and tactical scenarios with customized behaviors, ensuring realistic and effective training experiences.
Depending on the level of fidelity required, Thales AFV simulators can be equipped with original instrumentation or high-fidelity replicas sharing the look, feel, and functionality of real armored vehicles, providing trainees with a true-to-life experience.
Powered by the Unreal Engine 5 graphical engine, visuals also support maximum immersion with feature such as weather conditions, all sensor types including forward-looking infrared, and simulated equipment malfunctions. Thales also offers medium and low fidelity devices using COTS instrumentation (touchscreens to represent panels), COTS steering wheels, depending on the targeted training needs.
Simulators are also interoperable with C4I mission role equipment, including collaborative combat modeling with tactical links and vetronics. Moreover, we offer the ability to integrate and interface with OEM software, allowing to reduce lead time delivery, and further enhancing the training environment realism.
Lastly, Thales simulators are equipped with advanced AAR (After Action Review) capabilities, allowing instructors to provide detailed feedback and debrief trainees on their performance (technical, tactical).
Thales AFV simulators provide armed forces with the tools they need to succeed in an ever-evolving landscape of modern warfare.
