In Thailand, Thales equips fifty trains with a Thales ETCS Level 2 On-Board System. Since the necessary configuration is going to be used for the first time, comprehensive tests are necessary before the delivery to the customer.
Current situation challenges tests for customers
Because of the Covid-19 situation, it was no longer possible for the project team to continue the tests as planned from one day to another. However, stopping the test activities was also out of question, as the trains should run in Thailand with the Thales On-Board System in early 2021.
This is where our colleague Franz Lichal comes into play. Franz already had experience with the On-Board System as part of the generic development team. Because of that, he could quickly familiarize himself with the requirements of the project in Thailand.

He set up the system at home in coordination with Thales experts from Germany and Romania. The testing usually takes place within the company network. This hurdle could also be overcome and the system could be successfully and securely installed separated from the company network. The software was installed and the tests could be carried out successfully. The field tests with the customer in Thailand can now begin, where our system is once again put to the acid test.
A team player and hero in the home office
Even though he was not part of the original project team, Franz Lichal pulled all the levers, that nothing stands in the way of success in Thailand.
“Many thanks for your commitment and your tireless motivation.”
