Anthony HARRISON
Chief Software Architect (COTS/OSS)
Anthony has over 30 years of industrial experience working on complex mission systems in Thales, and predecessor companies, since 1989. With a software systems background he has held senior technical positions on a number of large programmes in Defence and other sectors, and was recognised as a Thales Expert in 2005.

Anthony has a BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics, MSc in Mathematical Modeling, and is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered IT Professional and Fellow of British Computer Society.

Anthony has become involved in several STEM activities including school based activities, primarily related to software coding to pupils in KS2 to KS5, also various activities around cyber security  (KS3, KS5 and teacher CPD). In addition, Anthony helps in school careers fairs and workshops, as well as science fairs.

He is heavily involved as a mentor for CoderDojo delivering workshops, and for delivering Royal Intuition (RI) masterclasses in Engineering and Computer Science -  all of which are delivered in weekends.  And, he has supported the Primary Engineer scheme, as a judge, for a number of years.

In 2014 he was awarded Most Dedicated STEM Ambassador of the year by STEMNET - http://www.stemnet.org.uk/stemnet-awards-for-inspiring-the-next-generation-of-scientists-and-engineers-announced-at-house-of-lords-ceremony/

Anthony is has seen the difference he has made in the ability to impart an increased awareness of opportunities which exist and to understand the challenges which exist in education today, with a growing network of teachers and other STEM professionals within the local community – working with the teachers is particularly important as the link between industry and education is currently very ad-hoc in some areas.

He has also seen a significant increase in the awareness of Thales capability and the opportunities which exist in the company for students once they complete their studies.

Moving forward, he is continuing to deliver workshops to all levels with a focus on linking into work experience/talent recruitment, and is keen to drive a growing awareness of Thales in the community.

It’s important to engage with the future talent and make them aware of the opportunities which exist. As we work in a very dynamic environment, we need to continually educate the students, their parents and teachers in the continually emerging opportunities that exist.
