In January 2022, Thales in Chile signed the Declaration of Punta Arenas, which aims to improve the lives of the inhabitants of the region, the country, and the world through research and innovation. This declaration reinforces our commitment to research, development, and innovation and the dissemination of knowledge, equity, and the raising environmental awareness concerning, the three fundamental pillars of this declaration. 

Defence & Security

Thales is a historical and strategic partner of the three Armed Forces of Chile:  Army, Navy, and Air Force. Thales provides unique solutions for the needs of air defence, submarine sonar, and other communication systems. In Optronics, the Chilean Army and Armed Forces use the Sophie and Celt families systems. Thales and Astilleros y Maestranzas de la Armada (ASMAR) jointly participated in major submarine modernization projects for Chile and Ecuador. 

Digital Identity and Security

In the area of banking, Thales is a leader in providing contact and contactless EMV banking cards to the market since their adoption. We also provide the EMV issuance solution for the main personalization bureau of Chilean banks and have the largest EMV instant issuance systems in Chile with more than 3,000 issuance points. Falabella and Santander – retailer and private banking institutions – have instant issuance projects. In the field of telecommunications, Thales has been present in the country providing platforms and services for more than 10 years to the 5 main mobile operators in Chile, and is  the #1 SIM card provider in the country working with the most important telecom operators and supporting  the most important eSIM projects in the region. 

Thales is also the leading supplier of Payment HSMs (Hardware Secure Modules) in the country and the only company that delivers both data protection and IAM (Identity Access Management) solutions in the market. In M2M (machine to machine), we are collaborating with several operators in different sectors on various topics, such as smart metering and smart cities. Both initiatives include terminals and services.
