Paving the way in Unmanned Aircraft Systems
These autonomous systems remove the man from the battlefield by putting the “pilot” on the ground. They provide critical support to forces on the ground to inform and protect.
With more than 40 years of experience in manned and unmanned airborne surveillance systems and as a European leader in sensors, communications and mission systems, Thales is at the forefront of innovation in unmanned aircraft system development. We are leading the development of future UAS capabilities around the world and have over 100,000 hours of operational flying experience.
Whilst pioneering growth in non-military UAS roles for an emerging civilian market, Thales is also supporting international regulatory initiatives to pave the way for integration into civil airspace, for which their potential applications are endless.
On Wednesday 30 September 2015, Thales’s Watchkeeper UAS, flew alongside manned aircraft in controlled civilian airspace, a first in UK aviation history.
Thales is a leader in the fast growing market of UAS, and the global market itself covers an array different platform sizes, capabilities and options. With our experience in UAS systems and services, Thales can offer advice and expertise to offer complete UAS solutions based on user requirement, to build tailored UAS capability.
Watchkeeper X
Watchkeeper X is a fully airworthy, certified, unmanned aircraft system that can be adapted to exact needs through the right choice in sensors, exploitation systems, and mobility and effector options. These options can be selected and inserted throughout the lifetime of the system.
The system delivers intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance capability, operating in extreme and challenging environments to collect, exploit and distribute vital information efficiently.
Central to the effectiveness of this certified high-performance unmanned aircraft system is the aircraft. It has an impressive 16hrs+ endurance; operating at ranges in excess of 140km a transit speed of 95knots. When operating multiple aircraft with the system you can achieve 24/7 surveillance, operating at any range.
Spy’Ranger
Designed to operate in extreme, non-permissive environments, this new-generation system gathers and transmits accurate, operational beyond-line-of-sight image intelligence.
Weighing only 15kg, the Spy’Ranger system is transportable in a tactical backpack and offers a range of different deployment options.
With a range of 30km and an endurance of three hours, the Spy'Ranger system, combined with the efficiency of its EO/IR sensor, advanced processing capabilities and a tactical datalink, makes the system suitable for any type of point or wide-area surveillance during the day or at night.
Fulmar X
With exceptional endurance and high quality aerial intelligence, Fulmar X provides high quality intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance capability to a range of applications.
Fulmar X operates in extreme and challenging environments to collect exploit and distribute vital information efficiently through an easy to deploy, operate and maintain system.
The system, built around a high performance, small and flexible fixed wing platform with reduced noise footprint, offers low operating costs with high reliability. It is launched using a catapult and recovered automatically with a net, which can be operated in very confined areas such as a ship or vehicle.
Fulmar X is ideally suited to border surveillance, intelligence missions, emergency and natural disasters, illegal traffic monitoring, critical infrastructures security, particularly where rapid deployment is required. It can easily be deployed from a ship
