IRST ARTEMIS - Permanent 360° surveillance, day and night
Protecting ships...
Protecting ships against conventional, asymmetric and emerging threats requires constant surveillance of seas and coasts. In this context, naval optronics surveillance systems, such as the ARTEMIS IRST developed by Thales, provide 360° surveillance to maximize the survivability of vessels.
...against multiple threats
Today's naval forces have to deal with an ever-increasing number of threats: conventional missiles, supersonic and hypersonic missiles, as well as surface and aerial drones. Given the rapid evolution and dissemination of these threats, it has become extremely risky to rely on a single sensor technology, even the most advanced, when it comes to a ship's survival.
ARTEMIS: the latest generation of IRST
ARTEMIS, the latest generation of Infrared Search and Track (IRST) optronic surveillance systems , has been adopted by four navies worldwide. It uses three independent optronic sensors mounted on the mast, providing long-range 360° panoramic surveillance day and night, with no blind spots. Unlike traditional systems with rotating heads, these static sensors offer enhanced robustness, with no moving parts exposed to the harsh marine environment. This design also enables optimum integration into modern ship architectures, while reducing maintenance requirements thanks to the absence of rotating elements.
Efficient detection and tracking
ARTEMIS uses sophisticated algorithms to automatically detect and track threats. It enables early detection of high-speed missiles and high tracking quality. It also enables detection and tracking of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned vessels (USVs), and is capable of handling simultaneous multidirectional attacks.
Advanced capability
Thanks to its cooled infrared camera technology, ARTEMIS is able to automatically detect, classify and track a wide range of threats, and communicate this information to the ship's combat system. This includes missiles, drones, buildings, low-flying fighter jets...
Discreet surveillance
An entirely passive system, IRST ARTEMIS provides discreet surveillance without the risk of detection by enemy forces. Its lack of electronic signature means it can “see without being seen”, and it remains particularly effective even in conditions of intense jamming.
ARTEMIS: your trump card for enhanced security
With ARTEMIS, Thales demonstrates that it is possible to reconcile reliable surveillance and rapid reaction to constantly evolving threats, while ensuring the safety and survival of ships in an increasingly complex maritime environment.
