Thales AVIATOR 200S system certified on Boeing 737

Thales, in partnership with Avionics Support Group (ASG) announces the availability of an FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for installation of the Thales AVIATOR 200S SwiftBroadband-Safety (SB-S) satcom system on Boeing 737 NG and MAX aircraft - ST04585AT.

The AVIATOR 200S provides secure, segregated cockpit safety and Internet Protocol (IP) data and voice communications over the Viasat+Inmarsat SwiftBroadband-Safety (SB-S) satellite communications network, delivering near-global coverage. Viasat+Inmarsat SwiftBroadband has pioneered the IP-enabled flight deck, introducing a wide range of sophisticated solutions that increase communication and capability across Air Traffic Control, Aircraft Operational and cabin crew operations. The AVIATOR 200S is the only Class 4 Compact SB-S system on the market. It offers 20x faster data rates vs Classic Aero Satcom, as well as significantly-reduced installation requirements, power consumption, weight and cost.  AVIATOR 200S complies with ED-202A (DO-326A) Airworthiness Security Process SAL 3. It also complies with RCP240/RSP180 for reduced separation Oceanic operation as well as ICAO Class B Satcom RCP130/RSP160 for Domestic operation where approved. These features make it future proof, supporting i4D/4D trajectory based routing for continental and oceanic use (ATN/OSI and ATN/IPS).

“Over 7000+ 737NG and 1500+ 737MAX aircraft can now add Aviator S or replace a legacy satcom to enhance operational capabilities.  At a system weight of 6.1kg/13.5lbs the AVIATOR 200S offers the lowest SWaP of any next generation satcom system. This system has the potential to touch all aspects of flying an aircraft. This includes daily operational efficiencies, EFB applications, and real time Predictive Maintenance.” Robert Holcomb, Thales Aerospace Communications

All of these capabilities in one system enable much more streamlined and efficient flying for a greener future through reduced fuel consumption.

“This ARINC 781 compliant system will be a robust solution now and in the future as the industry moves to dual dissimilar satcom as the Long Range Communication System to replace dual HF systems. It is ready today to fully support FAA NextGen and EASA Iris air traffic management requirements.” Marius Du Plessis, Thales Aerospace Communications Satcom Product Strategy

The STC, developed by ASG in partnership with Thales, covers the Boeing 737-700/-800/-900/-900ER/-8/-9 Series of aircraft.

“We are excited to work in tandem with Thales Aerospace Communications on this STC, and we look forward to helping bring this advanced satcom technology to the large Boeing 737 NG and MAX fleets worldwide.” Hugo L. Fortes, ASG’s Principal / FAA-DAR
