INNOVATION - Avionics 2020 cockpit: a forward leap
Based on collaborative work carried out with our customers and prospective users to capture and understand their future needs in term of avionics, Avionics 2020 is a concentrate of innovative concepts addressing different market segments (air transport/helicopter/business jet/military transport, etc.) with modular building blocks.
First of all, this new-generation cockpit designed by Thales aims to simplify flight crew operations through its breakthrough pilot-centric design. Its natural touch interactions and task-oriented interfaces gives the pilot all the elements he needs to make the right critical decisions at the right time. As Denis Bonnet, Innovation director for Avionics activities, explains “we built this cockpit around the pilot. We wanted to introduce a more natural means of piloting’’.
With a modern and effective architecture, Avionics 2020 integrates a large, secure display area associated with several reconfigurable means of control including multi-touchscreen capabilities, head-up and head-down controls which offer pilots an intuitive interaction solution comprising all aircraft systems and functions.
In terms of safety ”we brought new elements to pilots to reinforce safety thanks to a high head-up display quality, a whole understanding of the environment and an optimized risk management’’, Denis adds.
Enlarged aircraft connectivity is another key component of Avionics 2020, enabling the access of diverse external data coming from ATM, operators’ IT systems, services providers and the open world.
Moreover, Avionics 2020 takes full advantage of Thales know-how in ATM to ease operations of upcoming air regulations defined by SESAR, Cleansky and NextGen programs (Initial 4D Trajectory, Digital-Taxi, Airborne Separation Assistance Systems, ECO Take-Off).
With Avionics 2020, Thales provides an open and customizable avionics suite for any platform entering into service from 2020.
