Thales Partners with Lebanon to Enhance Border Security with Advanced Passenger Control Systems
On January 20th, 2025, in Paris, Thales, a global leader in digital security and border management, has signed an agreement with Lebanon's Minister of Public Works and Transport, Ali Hamie, to modernize and upgrade the integrated passenger control systems at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport (AIB). The announcement, made by the Lebanese National News Agency (ANI), underscores Thales' continued commitment to ensuring secure and efficient border operations worldwide.
This agreement forms part of Lebanon’s broader strategy to enhance the security of its border installations and modernize the General Directorate of General Security’s (DGGS) management systems for air, land, and sea border crossings. The interim Director of General Security, Elias Baïssari, and the Director of Civil Aviation, Fady el-Hassan, attended the event alongside Minister Hamie.
A State-of-the-Art Solution for Border Security
The updated integrated system is designed to streamline passenger transit across air, land, and sea borders while reinforcing national security. Leveraging advanced electronic document readers, state-of-the-art biometric fingerprint recognition, and cutting-edge camera systems, the solution will ensure seamless verification of travel documents and visas. Fully compliant with international security standards, the system will connect to both local and global databases, including INTERPOL, enabling real-time identification of potential threats or flagged individuals.
