Thales supports Royal Navy's winter sports showcase

Thales UK is sponsoring this month's Royal Navy Winter Sports Association 2015 Alpine Championships, a major sporting event which brings together military sportsmen and women from right across the service.

The championships – held in the French Alps 10-24 January  – attract a high standard of military competitor, including Great Britain representatives and inter-services level.

We are a major sponsor across the seven disciplines that make up the championship, including specific Thales prizes for the Giant Slalom A race and the Ski and Snowboard Cross.

Colin Murray, from our maritime sales business, will be attending, along with graduate Ben Orcan who will also be competing and representing Thales.

Colin says: “This is a hugely important customer event for Thales to be supporting. During the week, more than 600 members of the Royal Navy, representing every ship, boat and desk in the Navy and Royal Marines will participate.

It is the largest single sporting event that the Navy runs. This is the one event where it is just Navy personnel taking part and it allows everyone to participate at an appropriate level.

“The significance of the championships can be judged by the number of admirals and other senior officers who attend.

“We get the opportunity to have the Thales brand across the event and get to talk to so many officers who work with our systems and sensors at sea.”
