For over 60 years, Thales in the UK has pioneered the increasingly complex science of electronic surveillance. Thales Electronic Warfare (EW) solutions continuously protect British servicemen and women, and the platforms on which they serve – and in turn, civilian populations all over the world.
Thales in the UK has been at the leading edge of Electronic Warfare and Electronic Support Measures (ESM) since the days of radar when the science of listening was far more straightforward than it is today. With the competitive nature of intelligence-gathering and the resultant evolution of technology over the following decades, we continued to lead the way.
We’ve worked in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Navy developing innovative and world-leading digital technology. Thales in the UK has been instrumental in providing the Royal Navy in particular with situational awareness and tactical advantage.
We have continuously foreseen and risen to evolving challenges to meet increasing demands on technology in order for our customers to stay several steps ahead of the next threat and maintain freedom of manoeuvre and dominance at sea.
Enabled by patented technology, Thales now offers fully digital Electronic Support Measures that take the complexity out of Electronic Warfare. They detect all signal emitters within range of the system, without the compromise of filtering, or causing the host platform to become ‘radio silent’.
With a Thales EW solution detecting all signals all of the time, operators can now monitor and manage the electronic environment more effectively than ever. With a national ‘electronic warfare library’ – a continuously updated secure database of analysed signals – threats are identified faster, and crucial situational awareness is greatly enhanced. And because all the data generated is digital, it can communicate and correlate with other systems more easily, and provide clear, real-time maps of emitters within range.
Electronic Warfare began in the analogue era, with little signal traffic to sort through and decipher. Today, though, high-speed internet traffic and reliable mobile communications are a global norm, so radio frequencies are ever more crowded.
However, Thales has always been ahead of the curve, creating digital EW solutions that ultimately mean less work for users. Put simply, with our digital EW capabilities there is no filtering or system-reconfiguration required to maintain constantly reliable detection of emitters around you. This frees up more time to understand and evaluate your operational environment, and to make better operational decisions. Ultimately, this provides vital advantage to all mission types.
- Thales EW systems can detect multiple signals simultaneously across a wide frequency range, thereby achieving a step-change in the availability of Electronic Support Measures.
- Low interference across a wide frequency range means less time spent filtering data and reconfiguring EW systems, which increases operators’ efficiency and effectiveness.
- 100% multi-signal probability detection means you enjoy full effectiveness in threat warner requirements and situational awareness – from one world-leading system.
