Since March 2016 Thales has taken part in various outreach events promoted by the Instituto Superior Técnico University (IST) in Lisbon, with which Thales in Portugal has a protocol agreement.
The aim of the events is to develop and nurture communication between industry and students, and offers a means to promote technology and innovation as a means of developing products and solutions today, and in the future.
As a key part of this initiative, lectures are given by three employees from across the group in Portugal including Sérgio Barbedo, from defence, Luis Mafra from Cybersecurity, and João Mira, from the Innovation lab.
As well as lectures, specific student focused events include MecanIST for research students, JEEC IST (for engineering, and PhD Open Days (May) – including special session for all Doctoral students (around 1000) providing them the opportunity to presentation, networking and dissemination of their research, skills and experience.
