The maritime operating environment is increasing in complexity, with threats and technologies evolving all of the time. As a consequence, navies must continuously learn and adapt if they are to keep pace with the changing requirements of our uncertain world.
Our training systems increase the adaptability of modern-day combat systems and command teams, meaning navies can react swiftly and with agility in any scenario.

Designed to meet your needsExtracting maximum value from training and equipment, time-intensive training and recruitment and retention issues, are all challenges that face today’s navies. Our training solutions enable navies to benefit from proven, high quality training, knowledge and technical expertise with reduced risk – allowing suitably qualified and experienced personnel to get to the front line faster. |
Undertaking training is crucial to achieve true operational capability. Even with the best system in the world, if you can’t effectively use or maintain the equipment then your investment is wasted. Our combat team trainers maximise value by ensuring the systems can be used to best effect with Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP).
Rapid threat and capability developments mean that knowledge and skills can quickly become outdated. As OEMs, we can align platform upgrades with our training systems, to future proof the solutions. This delivers value for money, reduces training lag and pipeline inefficiency.
Using training systems to test new capabilities in a safe environment also enables agile product development, with training systems leading improvements, rather than lagging behind them. This can be seen through recent projects where our reconfigurable solution will evolve to meet Royal Navy requirements for the next 50 years.
As the primary sensor OEM for the Royal Navy we can provide a higher level of fidelity through our training systems because we understand their capability requirements. This results in higher quality training that can be quickly and easily validated, without needing to consult a third party.
Receiver based stimulation of operational software also enables operators and maintainers to train in an environment that they will experience during operations. As a result, performance expectations are realistic, with no surprises from degradation, upgrades or system variations once using the
equipment in service.
Reconfigurable training systems also enable multiple platforms to be supported at any time, so customers do not need to invest in bespoke trainers for each platform.

Over time, workplace training can become a burden on an operational platform. The fidelity provided through stimulation and replay reduces on the job training requirements significantly, removing the need for further workplace training.
Stimulating onboard systems with synthetic training assets in a live environment also enables teams to train whilst in transit, in high fidelity scenarios. This enables high fidelity individual and collective training previously only achieved through traditional multi asset exercises.
Using real time data that has been retrieved from previous missions, we can also support mission Lfe and rehearsals, further enhancing the operational capability of individuals and teams.

ServicesWe provide a number of training services, which range from:Asset provision Contracting for availability Full managed service |
Across Thales, we employ over 1,100 personnel directly in training and services business and are trusted to deliver training systems in the UK, Canada, USA, Australia, Norway, France and Germany.
We deliver across maritime, air and land, as well as delivering training systems into civil helicopters, energy and rail. In maritime, we deliver full platform and bridge simulators as well as tactical and procedural trainers in addition to the services we already deliver to the Royal Navy.
We are constantly innovating to implement advantages from new technology, such as hosting collective training simulations in the cloud, developing augmented and virtual reality systems, and using artificial intelligence to increase realism and engagement for the trainee.
