The Welsh Government (WG) has a core strategy to develop South Wales through the Tech Valleys initiative and ResilientWorks is the latest step taken to support this strategy. The WG is part of the core steering group around the NDEC and ResilientWorks programmes and sets out the key objectives of these projects, for example role creation targets, SME integration and educational support. As well as setting the strategy, the WG also work with Thales to verify these objectives are met to ensure the Tech Valleys benefit from the projects.

Headquartered in France, it operates over a number of market verticals including digital identity and security, space, aerospace, ground transportation and defence. Thales also invests heavily in innovation and research, and it is the combination of these elements that has brought the company to the Tech Valleys.
Thales is a founding partner of ResilientWorks and increasing its current investment in the Tech Valleys through the NDEC project. The markets Thales engages within make it an ideal founding partner as it brings with it experience, expertise, knowledge and product know how, enabling it to educate, co-develop and assist local businesses. In doing so, Thales benefits from local engagement, involvement in local projects, co-development of new solutions and works with education to nurture a talent pipeline.
Cardiff University is a long-standing reputable academic institution with a strong focus on cyber security, forensics, resilience and energy. Cardiff University has also invested in ResilientWorks through the provision of researchers, subject matter experts and facilities such as laboratories. Cardiff University also works alongside Thales to define PhD projects that align with the objectives of ResilientWorks. The university brings its own views and concepts to the campus that, in conjunction with Thales, further enhance research activity and provide an injection of energy and enthusiasm to drive it forward.
