Pursuing and actively implementing corporate social responsibility is imperative at Thales. Based on rigorous social and environmental principles, alongside a continual commitment to the highest international standards, together we’re ensuring our operations are undertaken ethically throughout the company.
Operating in some of the most regulated global industries, we have an integral awareness and a trusted commitment to our people, communities and to the environment. We ensure our purpose, innovations, compliance, and contributions towards a better future are secured in a measured and transparent manner.
Protecting the environment, taking climate change action, and preserving biodiversity are all firmly embedded within our company DNA. By taking action to reduce our footprint, employing eco-design principles in our systems, sourcing sustainably and lowering consumption, we're demonstrating our commitment to the planet.
At Thales, we promote a diverse and inclusive corporate culture that reflects our commitment to the development of our people. The wellbeing of our workforce, professional fulfilment and individual employee needs are met and advanced within a safe and supportive working environment, as we drive change to promote, embrace, and encourage people’s differences.
Diversity and inclusion
Building a diverse, equal and inclusive workplace is a core and proactive company policy, with focused aims to continually improve and amplify stimulating, successful and respectful environments for everyone.
There are multiple strands to our inclusion policy, as we work towards the acceleration of female recruitment, promoting women on management committees, LGBT+ inclusions, cognitive diversity, disabilities, and fighting sexism. By empowering a diverse workforce we’re helping to generate more creative and innovative solutions for the wider world.
Mental health and wellbeing
Employee wellbeing is vital at Thales, which is why looking after our people is a priority. We have created the comprehensive Work Well scheme, to support and advise the entire workforce, with access to guidance at any time.
To further improve a healthy work-life balance, our Smart Working initiative provides flexible options to assess team interactions, personalised needs, and management methods. Thales also continues its commitment to veteran programmes and adaptable parental support.
Health and safety
By improving the quality of working environments, we consistently apply our corporate social responsibility values to ensure onsite facilities and external worksites remain safe and healthy for all employees. Conditions are consistently observed with the correct tools and resources required to maintain excellent standards.
Certified and compliant with laws and global standards, we ensure all operations and procedures remain ethical, responsible and safe for employees, via renewed training, risk assessments, stringent regulations and audits.
We continue to contribute to a wide range of regional investment across varying communities to help to build a better future for the nation.
We are driven by the goal to end geographical inequality. Thales provides essential funding, educational activities, sponsorships and volunteering schemes, to drive UK growth and enhance community opportunity, so that everyone can share in the productivity and success of the country.
STEM outreach
Inspiring next-generation scientists, technology, engineering and mathematical experts to consider these avenues, we actively demonstrate, teach and raise awareness at career fairs.
Partnering with the Smallpiece Trust on STEM projects, we encourage and develop student interest. Career role models from the Thales team also frequently visit schools, teaching basic engineering skills, whilst sharing insightful knowledge.
Charitable partnerships
Over the last decade, our teams have raised above £2 million via fundraising events for the employee-chosen charity partnership. Helping 12 million people in the UK with lung conditions, this year we have partnered with Asthma + Lung UK, to aid critical funding for crucial research and treatments. Our charity partnerships also work to raise awareness and support their messages.
Sponsorships in kind & volunteering
Our employee-led activity is underpinned by our volunteering policy, which means we can contribute 160,000 hours of employee-delivered volunteering each year. Our communities also benefit from the Thales Solidarity Programme, a global initiative to fund and support community engagement projects.
