China is to build half of the future metro networks worldwide. China is strategic for the Thales development in transportation Bringing technological expertise; the Group can already boast a number of significant achievements in the country for ground transportation.
The JV Thales SAIC Transportation (TST) already provided the advanced SelTrac® Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) metro signalling projects for Chinese major cities (like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Wuhan…) and accomplished in total 521 kilometres in revenue of the metro lines in China. In 2012, TST won a €33 million (270 million RMB) signalling contract for the Nanjing airport rail link to supply SelTrac® CBTC system along the 35.8 km line within a strict and demanding deadline to be ready for the Youth Olympic Games (22 months).
In September 2013, Thales was awarded a contract by Hong Kong’s metro operator, MTR Corporation, to signal the SCL line’s (Shatin to Central Link) Phase 1 segment using a Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. Thales also modernised the Ma On Shan Line (MOL) and the West Rail Line (WRL) with its SelTrac ® CBTC solution in 2003/04, for fully automatic train operation.
In September 2014, Thales was awarded the Guangzhou Network Operation Control Centre (NOCC) contract. The contract is a breakthrough for Thales as it is the first deployment of Hypervisor™ solution in the transportation domain for the supervision of a large scale railway network.
At the beginning of January 2015, Thales and Alstom have been awarded the contract to supply advanced CBTC signalling system to Hong Kong’s DUAT seven metro lines. The seven lines of this project are Tsuen Wan Line (TWL), Island Line (ISL), including West Island Line extension, WIL), Kwun Tong Line (KTL), Tseung Kwan O Line (TKL), Airport Express Link (AEL), Tung Chung Line (TCL) and Disney Resort Line (DRL). After the upgrade, the capacity is expected to grow significantly.
