Thales recognised as an employer of choice for veterans
Thales Australia and New Zealand has been recognised by the Australian Government Department of Veterans’ Affairs as a Veteran Employer of Choice. This esteemed recognition acknowledges the steps and initiatives Thales has taken to support veterans in their transition to civilian careers.
The Veteran Employment Commitment (VEC) program offers three levels of recognition: Veteran Employment Supporter, Veteran Friendly Employer, and Veteran Employer of Choice. Thales achieved the highest level, demonstrating our commitment to employing veterans and creating a workplace where they can continue to feel like they're 'still serving' their country.
Reece Young, Project Manager at Thales, shares his experience: “Since joining Thales, I’ve been impressed with the support and opportunities available to veterans within the company. This has given me a renewed sense of purpose, which I hadn't felt since my time serving in the Australian Army.”
At Thales, we value the skills and experience that veterans and reservists bring to our team. With over 400 veterans, many of whom continue to serve in a Reserve capacity, we actively integrate their insights and expertise into our work, especially with our key customer, the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
Veterans Committee Chair, Thales Australia and New Zealand Chief Security Officer, and Colonel in the Australian Army Reserve, Nick de Bont said “by signing the Veteran Employment Commitment, we are making our unwavering pledge to veterans. We know there are unique challenges that veterans can face when embarking on a civilian career and we are committed to ensuring that Thales is an attractive and supportive workplace for veterans and their families This recognition as a Veteran Employer of Choice is a testament to the hard work of the Thales Veterans Committee and the strong support from our leadership team."
To support veterans' career progression and wellbeing, Thales has implemented several programs:
- Reserve Paid Leave of 30 days allows reservists to balance their military and civilian roles.
- Veteran Mentoring Program connects veterans with experienced mentors within Thales to help guide them through their career transitions.
- Partner with veteran-owned Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider Sonder to offer tailored assistance to veterans.
Thales is proud to be recognised as a Veteran Employer of Choice and is committed to providing a supportive environment for veterans and reservists as they start their post-service careers.
