Legacy Centenary Torch Relay concludes in Melbourne
This week, the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay made its way through Melbourne, the final stop on its six-month journey from Pozieres, France. The relay, a commemoration of Legacy's 100-year history, saw Thales Australia's Business Development Manager, Matthew Dodds, take up the mantle as a torch bearer as it made its way from the Melbourne Cricket Ground and through the streets of Melbourne.
On Thursday 12 October, the final leg of the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay began at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground with a special cross from the Channel 9 Today Show team. The relay’s route wound its way through the heart of Melbourne, culminating at Victoria Barracks, a fitting location steeped in military history.
Reflecting on his role in the event, Matt expressed his sentiments by saying, “Being part of the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay was an incredibly humbling experience. The opportunity to hear from those who have directly benefited and received support from Legacy really exemplified the spirit of gratitude and service before self that Legacy embodies. As both a veteran of the Royal Australian Navy, and now a contributing member of Australian Defence Industry, it was a privilege to have been able to take part."
With the final leg of the symbolic voyage complete, the relay’s finale will see the torch make its way to the Shrine of Remembrance on Friday 13 October where it will conclude and commemorate the collective memories, sacrifices, and unwavering support that Legacy has provided to families of veterans for a century.
Legacy’s century of service mirrors our own commitment to supporting those who serve and have served their country, and the participation of our people throughout the relay is a testament to our solidarity with their families.
Thank you to all who have participated in relay as it made its way around the country.
