Thales’s ordnance capability in Australia covers the complete supply chain, integrating design, manufacture, importation, storage, distribution, refurbishment, maintenance, testing and disposal for a range of propellants, explosives and munitions.

Thales manufactures 5.56 mm, 7.62 mm and .50 calibre ammunition that meet NATO MOPI requirements. It is comparable to other in-service natures including FN SS109, US M855, M193 and US M80 ball cartridges. Thales equally manufactures cartridge cases and projectiles for OEM ammunition customers, as well as non-military small arms and ammunition. 

Thales propellants offer the highest standards in accuracy, reliability and repeatability under varying temperature conditions. This wide range of military propellants is manufactured to the highest international standards, from an ISO 9001 certified manufacturing facility. Single base extruded propellants for use in small, medium and large calibre ammunition propulsion.

Thales maintains a specialised process and capability to undertake the manufacturing of solid rocket motors and explosive warheads, and the integration to a variety of guided and unguided applications. 

We can formulate propellants required for rotor motor manufacture and maintain the casting and extrusion capabilities to meet the correct propellant grain geometry sufficient to meet the desired propulsion effect. 

Our highly explosive products provide defence forces the technological, modern and strategic advantage they require. We also manufacture high quality energetic products for the commercial market, principally mining and construction industries.

Our large calibre range of components includes components to support OEM manufacture and finishing of naval and land-based artillery systems. Components are manufactured to incorporated with energetic materials by other manufacturers to production of terminal effectors and propulsion systems.
