Smart Sustainment Services
Delivering critical support and maintenance services to the ADF for over 30 years
For over 30 years and across 38+ locations country-wide, we have supported the Australian Defence Force with smart sustainment services, delivering availability and reliability of critical services that enables our Defence Force to ‘shape, deter, respond’ and keep Australia safe.
We do this by building trusted partnerships with our customers and a detailed knowledge of their requirements - leveraging the depth and breadth of our business’s digital capabilities, and the experience and knowledge of our people.
From service, support and maintenance of critical inventory and equipment, through to our extensive history successfully managing secure sovereign assets and services – we optimise the availability and readiness of our ADF whilst reducing total cost of ownership and delivering greater value for money every step of the way.
As a strategic partner of the Australian Defence Force, the delivery of critical services is core to what we do, with over half of the Thales Australia workforce (1950 employees) dedicated to delivering ADF service, support and maintenance around the clock - in peace time, crisis, and on operation.
We are an inclusive partner - partnering with various Defence Primes, OEMs, SMEs and other local businesses as a part of our Industry Engagement program to manage the execution of maintenance and repair related activities to the highest delivery standards.
* Over half our TANZ workforce - dedicated to delivering service for the ADF
Thales Australia manages over 20 service, support and maintenance contracts across Army, Navy and Air Force, of varying size and complexity.

Service delivery is not possible without a highly skilled workforce which is why people are the core element of everything Thales does. Thales, as an Employer of Choice and Registered Training Provider, continually invests in the skills and expertise of our people, upskilling our workforce to deliver even greater value to our customers.
Approximately 10% of our overall Australia and New Zealand workforce are veterans, who bring their military skills and experience to continue delivering in a service and support environment.
Analysis of maintenance data is critical to ensure consistent improvements in maintenance planning and execution and ability to pro-actively handle critical inputs such as user demand. Core to Thales’s approach is the use of data to optimise outcomes which benefits the ADF through optimum availability of equipment, greater efficiencies, greater value for money and reduced total cost of ownership.
We have previously demonstrated our ability to improve availability and reduce total cost of ownership outcomes:
Onshoring manufacture of $2m pa of weapons parts to Australian Industry under the Armaments Fleet Upgrade and Repair Program
30% decrease in EO network operating costs
Increase of Armidale Class Patrol Boats availability from 20% to 80%
Consistently achieved 96% availability of the Fast Frigate Guided platforms
